Exclusive: Joey Janela Says More AEW Vignettes Are Going To Happen, Talks Working With Nick Mondo

Joey Janela promises more Bad Boy.

He may not have been the biggest signing by All Elite Wrestling, but perhaps no signing was met with more fanfare than that of Joey Janela. "The Bad Boy" gathered a cult following on the Independent scene, highlighted by his annual Spring Break event over WrestleMania weekend, which quickly turned into the must-see event during a loaded weekend.

AEW Dynamite On 34th Street Results (12/25): Darby Allin vs. Ricochet, Shelton Benjamin vs. Kazuchika Okada

And while Janela has had screen time in AEW, he hasn't been able to showcase himself in video packages that highlight his personality just yet.

"It's gonna happen," Janela told Fightful at Starrcast when asked about seeing him in more video packages. "We have Nick Mondo doing a lot of the vignette work [in AEW]. Me and Giancarlo [Dittamo], our vignette's inspired [Mondo] to come back into the business and film stuff. It's full circle now. I'll get to work with Nick Mondo, who I also emulated when I got thrown off the building. It's a weird matrix that I'm living in."

Though Janela thrived on the Independent scene, there is a big difference between wrestling on Fite TV and appearing on TNT. And while Janela gets used to wrestling on national television, he knows that those in charge are rooting for him.

"It was weird coming in and never doing TV before and a lot of these guys are really pushing for me. Tony [Khan] has been fucking awesome. He's the best boss ever and he really cares about the guys. We can't do whatever we want, but we have a lot more creative control if we signed anywhere else, we wouldn't have the creative control we have here," he said.

Despite Janela being under AEW contract, he will hold his annual Spring Break event in 2020 during WrestleMania 36 weekend. What started as the brainchild of Janela has transformed into a full-blown weekend of events titled GCW The Collective. And Janela promises big things are in store in 2020.

"The Collective this year is going to be so crazy. We have bands, even an S&M party, if you have weird fetishes, come to that at midnight. We're doing a lot of shit. Spring Break is gonna be bigger than it's ever been."

The Great Muta was the first name announced for Spring Break 4. More announcements are expected in the coming weeks and months.
