Based on what Fightful Select learned, as of May, the original plan was for Josh Alexander to emerge as world champion upon his heel turn. We haven’t learned why things changed, but it was hinted to Fightful that it was because they felt Josh Alexander and Joe Hendry could continue their feud on their own.

We were told Hendry was also added to the match to reflect his popularity.
