Izzy Moreno: Jiu-Jitsu Has Made Me So Smooth Inside The Ring

Izzy Moreno speaks on the positive impact of training in Jiu-Jitsu on her professional wrestling abilities.

Professional wrestling is based mainly on entertainment, but having a strong athletic background can help one's performance. Izzy Moreno is now trying to build a strong foundation of legitimacy for her professional wrestling by continuing to train in Jiu-Jitsu.

In an interview with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, Moreno praised her martial arts training as helping her become a smoother performer.

"Bro, you have no idea because it has made me, and I'm not saying I'm this insane wrestler, but it has made me so smooth inside the ring, and for that, I will forever be grateful," she said. "I posted recently a video of this Northern Lights video into an armbar, and I watch a video every day when I wake up because I'm like, ‘I did that.’ It's a video I’m legitimately proud of and I think that's the sign of good training and being in a good place and having a really good coach in Ace Steel and also at Fighting Spirit."

Fighting Spirit is Pete Dunne's training school, and with his British wrestling roots, Dunne knows all about the benefits of legitimacy in the art of professional wrestling.

Moreno also criticized her coach, calling him a third dad, and discussed her excitement about dipping her toe into MMA.

"But the transition from, like, when I landed, when I rolled over into the arm bar, that's literally the answer to your question. Like Jiu-Jitsu has allowed for that. That video is a prime example. I'm so lucky because I've had such an amazing Jiu-Jitsu coach here in Orlando. His name is Coach Ricky. I actually adore him. I just want to give him a shout-out. He’s like my freaking third dad. I have so many wrestling dads at this point. It's terrible," she said. "I was so excited when I got into MMA, and honestly, a part of me was a little sad because the reason I went into it was because nobody wanted me in pro wrestling So was like, ‘Okay, if people don't want me in pro wrestling. I'm gonna learn how to fight for real.’ At first I was like, ‘Man, this is not what I want to do. I want to be doing the other stuff.’ But it helped me so much. Whenever I'm training and my movement is really smooth, I'm like, ‘Jiu-Jitsu, thank you.’ Honestly, I haven't done a class in a hot minute just because of my schedule, and I'm dying to go again. But it's helped me tremendously and I'll just always be grateful for that time. Once again, that's another thank you to the people who criticize me because, without you, I wouldn't have been into MMA and Jiu-Jitsu and being able to do armbar. So thank you."

Izzy will be a part of the GCW event, which will begin the tournaments to crown WWE ID Champions. However, will not be participating in tournament action. Learn more about that here.
