Matt Cardona: Until I Go Back Home To WWE, There Is Only One Indy God, And It's Me

Matt Cardona says he will be the only Indy God until he goes back home to WWE.

Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, has reinvented himself since his WWE release in 2020. He has competed all over the wrestling world and won many titles, including the GCW World Championship and the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. He recently added the Oceanic Championship to his collection by defeating Flip Gordon in the finals of the tournament that was held during Chris Jericho's Rock 'N' Wrestling Rager At Sea 2023.

In an interview with Fightful's Joel Pearl, Cardona discussed his reign as the Oceanic Champion and noted that he has been defending the gold, though he's no longer at sea. He cited his win over Homicide at GCW Eye For An Eye and named Steph De Lander as his new muscle. Cardona stated that GCW owner Brett Lauderdale was too cheap to fly her to Toronto for GCW's shows north of the border . He then noted that his opponent, Sexxxy Eddie, was not worth of him bringing his numerous titles to the ring.

"I defended it this past Friday—New York City, GCW. I squashed Homicide with the help of my new muscle, Steph de Lander. She’s not here tonight because Brett was too cheap to fly her into Toronto. I’m wrestling Sexxxy Eddie tonight. He’s not worthy of the Indy God bringing my titles to ringside," Cardona said.

Cardona went on to call himself the Indy God, and he stated that nobody on the independents is as hot as he is. When asked how one could potentially become an Indy God, he stated that the spot will only open up when he goes home to WWE. Until then, he made it clear that he is the only Indy God

"When I go back home, when I go back to World Wrestling Entertainment, then the spot will be available. For right now, there’s only one God, and it’s me," Cardona said.

Cardona has stated that his goal is still to win the WWE Championship. Click here to see what he had to say.
