Michael Oku discusses Amira's desire to move away from managing.
Over the course of the past year, British Heavyweight Champion Michael Oku has found himself accompanied to the ring by his girlfriend and manager Amira. While Amira has been a major part of Oku's presentation in that time, she recently stated in a recent interview with Fightful that she is hoping to move back into wrestling full time in 2024.
While speaking to Corey Brennan of Fightful in a recent interview, Oku was asked about the change that is coming. Michael noted that he feels fans will take longer to get used to it than he will and that he's looking forward to seeing Amira shine in the ring.
"She didn't get into wrestling to be a manager. She wanted to be a wrestler and that's the case for most people. So even though from what she said she's she's happy to manage me, she doesn't want to lose sight of what her goals are, which is to be professional wrestler and I don't want her to lose that either. I want to make sure that she's going after what she wants to, having said that, there is a thing where, she's my manager in RevPro and we're relaxed. The two of us are together. We're known as the two people that are together and are there in RevPro, so there's been times where she is taking a booking on the day of RevPro, I've come through the curtain and then there's a fan immediately being like, 'where's Amira? Where is she?' And I was like, 'she's booked. She's trying to wrestle.' So it may be if she's going to start managing me less, there's going to be this transition period where people, I feel like fans, more so than me, are going to have to get used to her not being there with me. So I think I'll be okay with it. I feel I'm able to like, when I'm in the ring, it's just me wrestling."
Michael continued, noting that he feels fans will genuinely miss Amira being at his side.
"So I think I'll be fine in that sense. But I think the fans will be getting used to not seeing her. I think they'll genuinely miss her. So we'll try and see how we can make it like a clean break and a smooth transition to her becoming an in-ring wrestler all around the country and world. Tthen i know one of her big goals would be maybe eventually becoming a regular wrestler for Revolution Pro Wrestling. So, I'm in her corner supporting her however I can and that's kind of the main thing. When it comes to what I'm worried about, just making sure that she's she's happy and doing what she wants to do."
Later this weekend on February 18th, Oku will look to defeat Will Ospreay at RevPro High Stakes in what will be Ospreay's final match on the UK independent scene before he heads to All Elite Wrestling. Amira has been a major part of this rivalry, and will be the only one who can throw in the towel for Oku this weekend.
