On the May 18 episode of AEW Dynamite, Wardlow stood in the center of the ring and was whipped with a belt by MJF.
Taking lashes from MJF was part of the conditions laid out by his former boss if Wardlow wanted to face him at AEW Double or Nothing. Wardlow took the lashes and smiled, only serving to irate MJF.
Speaking to Joel Pearl of Fightful, Wardlow reflected on taking the whipping.
To be 100% honest, I was really dreading that. Obviously, being whipped with a belt, it's kind of hard to go into that thinking positively. The adrenaline from the crowd is something you really can't explain until you felt it. When he smacked me that first time, in my head, I'm like, 'Gosh, this is gonna suck.' Then he did it, and I was like, 'that was it?' That smile on my face was genuine because it was me going, 'Oh, this is easy, keep them coming.' It wasn't too bad. Thank God for adrenaline," he said. "I had some red marks, but I have thick skin, maybe."
The segment ended with MJF kicking Wardlow in the groin and then continuing to whip him with the belt.
Wardlow would get the last laugh, decimating MJF at AEW Double or Nothing, sending him out of the arena on a stretcher.
Wardlow is currently the AEW TNT Champion while MJF is set to challenge for the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley at AEW Full Gear.
