Former NWA and WCW star Chris Champion has passed away at the age of 57.
Champion was one half of the New Breed tag team with Sean Royal. The duo worked under Jim Crockett Promotions and were scheduled to feud with the Rock N Roll Express before Champion was injured in a car accident. The New Breed were a tag team from the future, living in a world where Dusty Rhodes was the US President.
Champion went on to play Karate Kid and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle gimmicks after Royal retired. He was teamed with his brother, Mark Starr, to form the duo Wild Side. He also worked in USWA against Jerry Lawler.
In WCW, Champion assumed the gimmick of Yoshi Kwan, a mercenary from the Orient. He was brought in by Harley Race to take out competitors before they challenged Vader. He lost to Mick Foley at Fall Brawl 1993.
He suffered a stroke in 2002, but recovered enough to continue to working smaller shows throughout the years. His last match on record took place at SPW in 2012.
No cause of death has been revealed at this time.
RIP Chris Champion.
