Fox executive weighs in on WWE deal.
We're less than two months from WWE SmackDown debuting on Fox on Oct. 4. The move to Fox will, in theory, present the WWE product to a whole new audience and increase ratings, which have steadily declined over the years. SmackDown Live is currently pulling less than 2 million viewers every Tuesday on the USA Network. Despite the declining ratings, SVP of Sales at Fox Sports Mark Evans is confident that WWE will deliver on the network.
“We feel how we’re going to present and how we’re going to promote the WWE is going to inject it with such a new life,” Evans told The Big Lead. “It’s going to be a home run for us.”
During the latest WWE earnings call, WWE executive Michelle Wilson said Fox would heavily push WWE across all platforms and that Fox wants to integrate WWE into their programs. The plan is for Fox to dial-up their marketing for WWE beginning in September.
Fox is currently the home of MLB, NFL, College Football, and more sports. You can view how the upcoming MLB playoff schedule could affect the WWE by clicking here.
