Gable Steveson is headed back to Minnesota.
Minnesota Golden Gophers wrestling coach Brandon Eggum announced that two-time Heavyweight champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Steveson will return to the program for one more season.
Steveson has a year of eligibility left. He retired in 2022 after winning his second consecutive Heavyweight championship. He’s expected to make his season debut on November 24.
“First, I would like to thank the University of Minnesota for their time, their effort and their persistence with me to push me to the man I am today,” Steveson said. “Minnesota has given me everything, and now it’s my turn to give it right back to them: to put my feet back on the wrestling mat, to be the champ, one more time.”
Steveson has an 85-2 career collegiate record and an active 52-match winning streak.
Steveson was part of WWE from 2021, when he signed a NIL deal with the company, to May 2024 when he was released. He only wrestled one televised match in NXT. He tried out for the Buffalo Bills after his WWE released, but was among the final roster cuts.
