The Great-O-Khan gives his first interview with NJPW and talks about his time with Will Ospreay.
O-Khan surprised many when he appeared at the G1 Climax and attacked Kazuchika Okada on behalf of Ospreay, forming The Empire. O-Khan and Ospreay did have a prior relationship having wrestled for British promotion RevPro for some time.
Speaking to NJPW, O-Khan said he was planning on staying in the UK a little longer until he got the call from Ospreay to come to Japan and help him deal with Okada.
"We had planned on being in the UK for a while longer when Ospreay called and said he wanted Okada crushed. We don’t care about the particulars. We lent a hand to Ospreay as an ally, that’s it. It is. We wrestled on the same card as him in the UK, and even though we were in different locker rooms, he made a point of coming to us," O-Khan said.
Ospreay is now busy preparing for a match against Okada at next year's Wrestle Kingdom show while O-Khan is looking to win the World Tag League. O-Khan said his goal at the moment is to win the tournament and then the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team titles at Wrestle Kingdom.
"Ospreay’s goal from the start has been to crush Okada," O-Khan said. "Whether we won or lost, our job in Osaka was to crush the life out of him. Now it is our job to support Ospreay so he may do the same. Ospreay beats Okada, we win World Tag League together with our partner, win the IWGP Tag Team Championships at Wrestle Kingdom, and all of the Tokyo Dome falls under the control of THE EMPIRE!"
O-Khan's partner for the World Tag League ended up being Jeff Cobb and the two of them are currently in a multi-tem tie for first place after three shows. You can check out the updated standings at this link.
