Gunther and Drew McIntyre are set to wage war at WWE SummerSlam.
McIntyre has been targeting the WWE Intercontinental Champion since WWE Money in the Bank 2023. There, he confronted Gunther after the champion beat Matt Riddle. The two stars have been on a collision course ever since, and McIntyre has teamed up with Riddle to battle Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci). Gunther called out McIntyre on the July 17 episode of WWE Raw, setting the stage for a showdown the following week.
On the July 24 episode of WWE Raw, McIntyre and Gunther came face-to-face. McIntyre challenged Gunther to face him then and there. Gunther refused, and he insulted McIntyre by bringing up his past shortcomings. He then vowed to humiliate McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam. McIntyre responded by telling Gunther he'd show him why everyone called him the Scottish Psychopath.

The former WWE Champion then defeated Kaiser in a singles match. Gunther and Vinci attacked him after the bel. Riddle tried to make the save, but Gunther powerbombed him. Gunther then dropped McIntyre with a big boot. Gunther went to slam McIntyre through the broadcast table, but McIntyre countered and powerbombed the champion through the table.
Gunther previously won a Triple Threat Match against McIntyre and Sheamus at WWE WrestleMania 39.
