Gunther: The Match With Brock Lesnar Is Better Off Not Happening Now, We'll See Next Year

Gunther opens up about his face-to-face with Brock Lesnar at the WWE Royal Rumble and says he's okay with their match not happening just yet.

Gunther has been open about wanting to face Brock Lesnar in the future, and when the two shared a brief moment at the WWE Royal Rumble in 2023, the crowd appeared to be ready for that moment as well. Now, speaking with Ariel Helwani, Gunther is discussing why that moment validated his hopes for the match and says he's more open to revisiting the idea next year. For now, he's okay with Brock Lesnar going his own way.

Nunzio Says Everybody In NXT Locker Room Was Respectful, Match Was Shorter Than He Wanted

"I'm hoping for that match but to be honest, I think it's better that it's not happening now. I think that moment we had in the Royal Rumble was at least everything I needed out of it right now," said Gunther. "On the internet, they always see things pop up, but often they don't translate in real life, but just the reaction we got for that moment we had there was like a real live confirmation for me that, 'Okay, people, they want to see this.' I got my stuff to do now, he does what he does, and then let's see what happens next year."

This year, Gunther is defending the WWE Intercontinental Championship against both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Gunther has already made history, becoming the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion since The Honky Tonk Man. Learn more here.
