Gunther discusses Bron Breakker's main roster call-up, their meeting in the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble Match, and potentially facing Breakker at WWE WrestleMania.
Bron Breakker is the latest name to move from WWE NXT to the main roster. He was signed to WWE SmackDown on the February 16 episode. Prior to that, he had made a splash in the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble. One of his targets in that match was current WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther.
In an interview on the Battleground Podcast, Gunther commended Breakker for going after him in the WWE Royal Rumble, saying he would have acted similarly in order to make a name for himself.
“I mean, good on him. I would have done the same. First of all, it was his big first appearance on the main roster, and as he should, he made the most out of it. He went in there with all this energy and all the power he has, and I think just athletically, he’s somebody that’s superior over a lot of the guys on the main roster. But that was the Royal Rumble, he was in there for a few minutes. It’s gonna show if he can uphold it in a one-on-one situation," said Gunther.
Gunther then went on to say that should Breakker somehow be the person that was to challenge him for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40, he would feel confident that his experience edge over the young second-generation performer would be a deciding factor in the match. However, he does say that he would be excited about the challenge and believes the match would be equally exciting.
"If I would face him at WrestleMania, I would be confident because my advantage towards him is an almost 20-year career, and he’s still very young and inexperienced at that. I think he has all the potential in the world. If he’s the one for WrestleMania, I’m here to take on the challenge, and I think it’s gonna be a very exciting match."
Breakker does hold a victory over Gunther. He successfully defended the NXT Championship over "The Ring General" on the April 5, 2022 episode of WWE NXT. That would be Gunther's last match in NXT before being called up to WWE SmackDown later that same week.
At this time, Gunther is unsure of what he will be doing at WrestleMania 40. Read his comments on his WrestleMania status here.
