Gunther Surpasses 600 Days As WWE Intercontinental Champion

Gunther makes history yet again.

Gunther has now hit 600 days as WWE Intercontinental Champion. He has long since broken the record for the longest reign with the Intercontinental Championship. Gunther surpassed that record on September 7, 2023, usurping The Honky Tonk Man's record which had stood for 35 years.

Gunther's reign began on June 10, 2022, when he defeated Ricochet to win the championship on an episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. He most recently defended the title against Kofi Kingston on the January 29 episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.

Throughout his reign, Gunther has successfully defended the prestigious championship against the likes of Chad Gable, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio, Shinsuke Nakamura, Matt Riddle, Xavier Woods, and more.

During a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp, Gunther opened up about his desires to potentially go after the World Heavyweight Championship, claiming that he would have to consider potentially forfeiting the Intercontinental Championship to prevent the championship from losing its prestige and potentially take a backseat to another title.
