Hiroshi Tanahashi Loses Final Match In U.S. At NJPW Windy City Riot

It's the end of an era.

Hiroshi Tanahashi took on Konosuke Takeshita on Friday night, at NJPW Windy City Riot, and the 'Ace' of New Japan went out on his back.

After a big splash from Takeshita, the Ace kicked out at one. He then hit a dragon style slap to Takeshita's face and eventually followed up with a Slingblade and a high crossbody block. But when he attempted a frog splash, Takeshita got his knees up and took control of the match. After a strike-fest between the two competitors, Takeshita took control and hit a series of Power Drive Knee Strikes on Tanahashi. Still, Tanahashi refused to go down. Until he did. Takeshita got the win, and Tanahashi got to go out on his terms, the New Japan commentators said.

Takeshita finally defeated Tanahashi and he was emotional in doing it. The camera didn't pick up Takeshita saying "I'm sorry, I love you." But the sentiment was the same. Following the match, Takeshita extended his hand in gratitude, and then left so that Tanahashi could have one more moment in front of his American fans. The crowd chanted 'Thank You Ace.' And Tanahashi thanked them back.
