HOOK will defend the gold on the July 19 episode of AEW Dynamite.
In recent weeks, FTW Champion HOOK has been feuding with his former JungleHOOK partner, "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry, as the former Jurassic Express member turned on him at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023. Perry has escaped HOOK on multiple occasions. After his latest escape on the July 12 episode of AEW Dynamite, he claimed that he would not return until he got a shot at HOOK's title.
During a brief promo on the July 14 episode of AEW Rampage, HOOK agreed to give Perry a shot at the gold, and the match was confirmed for the July 19 episode of AEW Dynamite.
