Last Thursday, at an NXT Live Event in Highland Heights, Kentucky, Tommaso Ciampa tweaked his ankle jumping from the apron to the floor. The ref threw up the dreaded 'X' symbol, the match was ended immediately, and Ciampa was helped to the back.
Two days later, at NXT Takeover: Chicago, Ciampa competed in the Ladder Match for the NXT Tag Team Titles alongside partner Johnny Gargano against the Authors of Pain. Ciampa & Gargano ended up losing that match, and afterwards, as you can see in the above video, Ciampa turned on Gargano in an especially vicious manner.
Last night at the Full Sail television tapings, Ciampa came out on crutches to deliver a promo, saying he would be out for a while, but that when he gets back, he will be the most dangerous man in NXT.
Now PWInsider is reporting that Ciampa's injury is not only legit, it is very serious, and he will be heading to the Andrews Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, for diagnosis and surgery.
Oddly enough though, it doesn't appear that the serious injury is related to the ankle tweak he suffered at that Thursday Highland Heights Live Event, and instead, Ciampa suffered a separate, different injury on Saturday in Chicago.
