Laurinaitis said in February 2023 that he returned to Ohio State as a coach with aspirations of becoming the Buckeyes’ linebackers coach.
“I think for me, it all starts with, can I be the best linebacker coach in the country? And can I aspire to do that at my alma mater? I think that kind of to me is the first thing that comes to mind, and so I'll attack this year with that vision," he said.
Laurinaitis played linebacker at Ohio State from 2005 to 2008 and was drafted in the second round of the 2009 NFL draft. He spent eight seasons in the NFL before retiring.
