Jeff Hardy has been working as a tag team wrestler ever since his WWE return in April, but next week on WWE Monday Night Raw, he'll get a singles championship opportunity.
"The Charismatic Enigma" will get a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship on September 4, after winning a number one contender's battle royal on this week's episode of WWE Raw. Hardy outlasted 14 other Raw competitors, last eliminating Jason Jordan to take home the win.
The Miz had been in the ring to air his grievances regarding his Intercontinental title defenses before the match was announced. WWE Raw General Manager Kurt Angle also announced that the title will be defended at the September WWE No Mercy pay-per-view as well.
The Miz and Jeff Hardy have never faced one another in a singles match, but have competed multiple times in tag team matches dating all the way back to 2008. Hardy is looking to win his fifth WWE Intercontinental championship next week.
