Jim Ross Says Christian Cage's Size Held Him Back In WWE, Calls Him One Of AEW's Best Heels

Jim Ross comments on Christian Cage not getting a push in WWE and the quality of his work in AEW today.

Even those who have great careers in WWE such as Christian Cage or Samoa Joe are sometimes just often seen as wrestlers who did better when they were outside the walls of the sports entertainment juggernaut. Christian Cage accomplished so many milestones in WWE but was always more predominantly used as a main eventer in TNA wrestling and now in All Elite Wrestling.

Jim Ross is the man who hired Christian Cage to WWE back in 1998 and on the latest episode of his podcast, Grilling JR, Ross spoke about why he believes Cage's stature was ultimately a disadvantage to him in WWE, feeling that perhaps he just did not stand out enough to stay on Vince McMahon's radar as a top-drawing performer.

"His size [and] look didn't do him any favors at certain points in his career. I know that my belief is that McMahon did not push him more because he didn't like Christian's look. It didn't sell. It wasn't the 'wow factor.' He wasn't the guy, except for his hair, that could walk through an airport and be noticed. He fit in. Edge, being 6'4, stood out. So, yeah. Size had a big issue there, at times. He's passed it now, thank God, for AEW. That's why he's one of the best heels in the friggin' business."

On the December 6 episode of AEW Dynamite, Christian Cage will defend his AEW TNT Title against Adam Copeland, formerly known as Edge in WWE. Should their match go on last, it will be the first time that the childhood friends headline any televised program in a match against one another in their 25 years on wrestling television.
