Joe Hendry: Just Because You're Cheered By The Audience Does Not Make You A Nice Guy

Do nice guys finish last? Joe Hendry says it doesn't matter.

The current TNA World Heavyweight Champion is a "good guy" right now, but that doesn't mean he's a "nice guy."

In fact, Hendry says, the biggest babyfaces in pro wrestling were rarely "nice guys." Wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker and others weren't exactly nice guys and they were the biggest babyfaces of all time. Joe Hendry recently referenced his earlier days as a heel and said that not much has changed, in terms of his presentation. Hendry told Fightful's Joel Pearl that you don't have to be a nice guy to be a babyface.

There wasn’t much thought in being a good guy or bad guy, it was more what I found funny. I made vignettes that I thought were funny. I’ve found in professional wrestling, in those vignettes, my character did terrible things and people cheer you on more for doing terrible things. The biggest babyfaces of all time, are they nice guys? Are they nice people? No, not typically. They are on occasion, but they are not presented as nice people. Just because you’re cheered by the audience does not make you a nice guy," Hendry said.

Hendry is set to defend the TNA World Championship against both Frankie Kazarian and NXT's Ethan Page at TNA Rebellion, happening April 27 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.
