Kaitlyn speaks about her comeback.
Two weeks into the month of July and the first name for this year's Mae Young Classic tournament was announced. The name that was unveiled was a former WWE star in the form of former WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn began her career in sports-entertainment in 2010 as a part of the beginning stages of NXT. After four years with the WWE Kaitlyn decided that she was going to separate herself from the wrestling business to pursue other endeavors.
The NXT season 3 winner is officially back with the company after four years away and she will be featured in the Mae Young Classic tournament which has been taped and will air on the WWE Network beginning on September 5th. Ahead of the Kaitlyn's in-ring skills being shown to the world in just a matter of days, she spoke with WWE.com and reflected on how things in the company have changed since she was last there.
“It has been four and a half years since I was standing inside a WWE ring. Seeing how far the women have come just is such an amazing feeling and I’m so proud just to be a part of it because things were so different, and I started with WWE eight years ago, it’s incredible. Just the evolution of the women and women’s wrestling so I’m just so proud to be here." Kaitlyn said.
Kaitlyn shared that she did not know she was going to be the first name announced for the Mae Young Classic and also explained why the experience she garnered during her time away will guide her to success in this year's tourney.
"I did not know that I was going to be the first participant announced. It is insane--the reaction I got on social media and I honestly did not expect such an overwhelming, warm welcome." She continued, "This time around I know I have experience in that ring and I know what it’s like and I know how immense the pressure can be. I’ve definitely had the chance to go back to the basics and then added some new stuff to my arsenal. I really just think I have experience on my side and a lot of heart."
