While chatting with Fightful Overbooked for a new interview, Blackwood revealed that he wasn't originally the person that was supposed to face Benjamin at the show.

"I was not the original opponent slated for him. I forget who was supposed to be there, but it already fell through. The promoter of Epic Pro Wrestling in Los Angeles, he messaged me casually and was like, ‘If you’re going to be at Mania, do you think you would want to wrestle Shelton Benjamin at Pandemonium?’ ‘Yeah, please, have them contact me, I would definitely do that.’ I knew that DPW, West Coast, and Prestige are doing their own Collective situation, so I knew I would be there for sure. Their show is at 11 am, so I doubt I would be doing anything. ‘Yes, please book me.’ It’s cool to know that I’m going to do that. It’s January currently and it’s happening in April, so I have a few months to prepare for it. The biggest thing that I want to do in that timeframe is get a little bigger. He’s so big and strong. I watched Garcia wrestle him, and how easily he tossed Dan around. Dan is not small. He’s 6 feet tall and weighs 190 pounds. He’s very dense and very strong. Shelton Benjamin just threw him around like he weighed 50 pounds. I’m smaller than Dan, so I want to get a little bigger. I have cool ideas of what to do. I think our styles are going to mesh really well. I’m excited and have a lot to think about. A lot of eating."

Blackwood then responded to Benjamin's current style, a style that leans more in the powerhouse direction of things.

"I’m glad he does that because with a lot of guys, with the way wrestling is now, you’ll see big guys who, don’t get lazy, but lean into the fact that you’re huge and you’re strong. You have this thing that none of us have. Do that, but they’ll do cruiserweight stuff, I guess just to prove that they can do it. It’s a pet peeve to me. Shelton being bigger than most of us that are wrestlers today, it’s sick that he’s like, ‘Yes, I will throw you around and break you.’ He can also still do the run up suplex off the top rope. He’s not hiding that he can do those things, but it’s sick that he does it sparingly because he doesn’t have to."
