Kenny Omega is no stranger to tournaments, having competed in NJPW's G1 Climax, Best of the Super Juniors, IWGP United States Championship tournament, and World Tag League.
His performances in those tournaments, especially the G1 Climax, helped boost Omega's popularity and earn him the reputation he has today as an in-ring performer. And speaking to Connor Casey of Comic Book, Omega revealed that AEW has discussed the idea of doing some style of tournament.
"Every one of those tournaments, they're rough on the body and it's tough to figure out a schedule to do so," Omega said. "Whether it be a round-robin tournament, a league style or one night we are definitely looking into a tournament format because people, as a [myself] fan even, I love tournaments. As, a performer they're tough to do, but I think it really tests the athletes' mettle and it really separates the men from the boys. Yeah, I would love to do a tournament. I don't know what we'd call it. Don't have any ideas for a name, but all of us have been brought on board with a tournament. It's just a matter of figuring out how."
AEW used a standard single-elimination tournament format to crown the first-ever AEW Tag Team Champions. As of now, there have been no announcements regarding future plans for a tournament.
Omega teamed with Hangman Page at AEW Revolution, defeating the Young Bucks to retain the AEW Tag Team Titles. If you missed anything from the show, check out Fightful's full report by clicking here.
