Since AEW formed in 2019, many New Japan Pro-Wrestling stars have left Japan for AEW. Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, and The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson) were four stars who initially left with the likes of Jay White, Kazuchika Okada, and Will Ospreay following over the years.
AEW and NJPW formed a working relationship during the pandemic, and many AEW stars have returned to NJPW.
Speaking to Tokyo Sports, Kenny Omega said he hopes to see more former NJPW talent return to Japan.
"Many of the top wrestlers in AEW have an aspect of having come from New Japan, like (Will) Ospreay, Jay White and (Kazuchika) Okada. They achieved results in Japan, came to AEW, won the belt and became stars. So I think it would be more interesting if those kinds of wrestlers came back to New Japan and had more matches to see who would win, the current AEW star or the New Japan star," he said.
Omega returned to AEW at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty, defeating Gabe Kidd.
