Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will defend the gold at WWE Payback.
On the August 28 episode of WWE Raw, WWE announced that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against Finn Balor and Damian Priest of The Judgment Day at WWE Payback. Owens returned on the August 21 episode after The Judgment Day previously took him out with an attack. He and Zayn have been feuding with The Judgment Day throughout the past few months.
The Judgment Day has struggled to coexist in recent weeks. Balor and Priest, who holds the Money in the Bank briefcase, have not been on the same page. They will aim to put their differences aside and win the titles on September 2.

Priest and Balor defeated Owens and Zayn via disqualification on the August 21 episode of WWE Raw. Owens, Zayn, and Rhodes then beat Priest, Balor, and Dominik Mysterio later in the show. Thanks to some interference from JD McDonagh, Priest defeated Zayn in a singles match on the August 28 episode.
WWE Payback will mark the first premium live event with a tag team title defense since WWE Night of Champions 2023.
