Kevin Owens explains his actions.
For a week, WWE advertised a six-man tag team bout featuring The Street Profits and a mystery partner against The OC trio of AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson for Monday's Raw. Instead, fans were treated to a tag team bout with Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins making their Raw in-ring debut against Gallows & Anderson. As AJ Styles tried to interfere in the bout, Kevin Owens was revealed as the mystery man for the Street Profits, taking out Styles with a Stunner, allowing Ford & Dawkins to pick up in the win.
In a backstage interview with WWE, Owens explained why it took him so long to show up.
"I wouldn't call myself the third member of the Street Profits. That's high praise, and I don't know if I'm ready for," said Owens. "I knew they needed back up, and while they're right, I strongly dislike AJ Styles, they're probably wrong when they say, they dislike him as much as me because you'd be hard-pressed to find somebody who despises AJ Styles as much as I do. Now, I'm back on Raw, and that's bad news for AJ Styles. Here's the thing, you know why I waited this long to go out there? Because I wanted to make sure the Street Profits needed me. Tonight wasn't about AJ Styles or The OC or Kevin Owens. It was about the Street Profits having their first match on Raw. AJ Styles made sure they needed me by sticking his nose in their business. AJ's gonna stick his nose in their business; I'll gladly try to break his nose."
At this point in the interview, Ford & Dawkins showed up to praise Owens for helping them. Owens then joked, "I like you guys so much, I might not even turn on you. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, but it's looking good."
Earlier this year, Owens turned on The New Day after a few weeks of being an honorary member following Big E's injury.
