A church in the UK is incorporating live professional wrestling to entice churchgoers and provide a unique spin on unpacking the stories in the Bible.

Kingdom Wrestling puts on shoes at St Peter's Church in Shipley and recently went viral for hosting live matches. The promotion puts on monthly shows and offers training for aspiring wrestlers and the ability to reach out for special events.

Kingdom founder Gareth ‘Angel’ Thompson appeared on Australia's The Project and explained his mindset when he came up with the idea to merge church and kayfabe.

"In the context of wrestling in a church, wrestling is the ultimate form of storytelling. It is the ultimate form of what we might call a soap opera for men, and it is good versus evil. It is characters, it is spectacle, it is everything you would love the Bible to be," he said. "We can take the age-old story of David and Goliath, and we can tell it in this ring in physical narrative. People can sit, watch it, digest it, feel it in person, and then we can unpack it from the Bible after."
