Lexis King continued trying to fight his DNA, but embracing it scored him a victory.
Lexis King is actually Brian Pillman Jr. He wrestled under that name in AEW. However, in NXT, he wants to carve his own path, and he wants that path to be far away from the legacy of his father, "The Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman. He tried to further that distance in a "Gentleman's Duel" against Oro Mensah on the October 15 episode of WWE NXT, but in the end, embracing his father's legacy scored him the win.
The rules of this match were supposed to exemplify the pure style of wrestling, including breaking on the count of three when in the ropes, not throwing your opponent over the top rope, not fighting on the ringside floor, and not striking your opponent when they have all four points of contact on the ground.
In the end, Lexis pinned Mensah by using the same cradle that Brian Pillman used to defeat Jushin Thunder Liger at WCW Superbrawl II in a match for the WCW Light Heavyweight Title.

So, while he didn't have to tap into any off-the-wall antics, King did rely on his genetics to score the win.
