Athena receives high praise from Mark Briscoe.
Mark Briscoe is proud to be a flag bearer for the Ring of Honor brand. However, it can be argued that in 2024, no one is flying the flag for the Ring of Honor in a more pronounced way than Athena. Athena is the longest-reigning champion in the entire history of Ring of Honor, and she's closing in on 700 days as Ring of Honor Women's World Champion, too.
Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Briscoe put over Athena as one of the top five wrestlers in the world and a great representative of Ring of Honor.
"I just want to take this time to put over one of, if not the best professional wrestler in the world, top five in my book, anyway, and that is Athena. I mean, the way that she has carried this Ring of Honor Women's Title and, I mean, just whenever you know the decision is made to get her on AEW, she's going to take over, man. She's just so complete and so good as a performer and as a wrestler," he said.
Athena was signed to AEW in 2022 but has spent most of her time on Ring of Honor since capturing the ROH World Title.
