Rhodes and Cardona are longtime friends, and they worked together for several years during Cardona's run with WWE. Rhodes left the company in 2016, and he later became one of the founding Executive Vice Presidents of All Elite Wrestling. Following Cardona's WWE release in 2020, he reunited with Rhodes during his brief AEW run later that year.

WWE subsequently confirmed that Rhodes will challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39.

Cardona continues to compete for IMPACT Wrestling and NWA. He will challenge Tyrus for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at NWA Nuff Said on February 11. More information is available here.
