Matt Riddle Defends Talking Trash To Goldberg, 'I’m Just Talking Sh*t, You Know What I Mean?'

Matt Riddle wants to bring some reality to the world of wrestling.

In the past, Riddle has been criticized for making a number of comments about Bill Goldberg, often teasing the legend and slandering his in-ring performances. A match between Goldberg and Riddle seems extremely unlikely at this point, as Goldberg is set to have his retirement match in WWE in 2025. Riddle was released the company in September 2023.

While chatting with Brandon Walker on a recent edition of Barstool's Rasslin', Riddle defended his words and said that he's just talking shit for the fun of it.

“These guys, especially say a Bill Goldberg, a guy like me talks that trash, they know my background, and then they kind of get upset. ‘I’ve been doing this for years.’ I’m just talking shit, you know what I mean? It’s the same thing in fighting. People talk shit in fighting, and half the time, they’re just spitting shit to get ticket sales, and that’s what you do. Not saying you don’t mean of some of it or you’re having fun, and part of it is, the more real you can make it, even with fighting or pro wrestling, say me and Seth [Rollins], when I was going through a divorce and Seth called that out, I told him to say that because I knew everybody’d be like, ‘Oh my god, that’s real, I can’t believe he said that on live TV. Now he really wants to kill him.’ That’s what we do."

Riddle went on to say that he'd be honest if he ran into somebody that could mess him up.

“If I’m running into a heavyweight fighter or somebody I know that could probably smash me, I’d be like, ‘Yeah, this dude, like I said, Brock, Bobby Lashley, probably gonna get me. Not gonna say definitely, there’s always a chance. Those are some big, bad dudes that are high-level wrestlers, mixed martial artists, and they’re good."

Elsewhere in the interview, Riddle challenged Goldberg to "step up to the plate" for his final match. Learn more about those comments here.
