Mercedes Mone Says She Won't 'Give The Tea' On Walking Out Of WWE, 'I Trusted My Heart'

Mercedes Mone is asked about the day she walked out on WWE.

During the May 16, 2022 episode of WWE Raw, Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks in WWE) and Naomi reportedly walked out of the company over creative differences with Vince McMahon. The two were the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions at the time. Mone and Naomi were booked in a multi-woman number one contender's match on the show before leaving. They were suspended indefinitely on the following episode of WWE SmackDown.

Mone would officially leave WWE at the beginning of 2023, signing with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Appearing on WFAN, Mercedes was asked about the night she walked out.

"For so many years, everyone wants the tea on that drama. You're not going to get it unless you buy the book maybe ten years later," she said.

After being asked if there were some issues backstage, Mercedes replied, "For me, I went from a Legit Boss to a CEO because I wanted to grow. There was something in my soul that said, 'You need to grow.' I wanted to be the CEO of my own life. There was a light source that came into my heart that day. 'You have to do what's right for you. What's happening right now at this moment is not right. You have to take your life in your hands and go make it happen. Go make your heart happy. Go let them know that what they're doing right now is wrong and show them.' I did. I had to let them know that I am the right one that you messed with that day, and now here I am today, one of the highest paid women in women's wrestling history. The TBS Champion, going after the New Japan Strong Women's Championship. I get to do so much of my dreams because of that day that I walked out and trusted my heart."

Mercedes would eventually make her way to AEW, debuting in March 2024. Meanwhile, Naomi re-signed with WWE in January 2024 after a run with TNA Wrestling.

Mercedes will face Stephanie Vaquer in a title vs. title bout at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Mercedes will defend her AEW TBS Title while Vaquer will defend her NJPW Strong Women's Title.
