Mike Bailey envisions the Best of the Super Juniors tournament as a chance to climb back into title contention.
Bailey has had a successful run since he made his IMPACT Wrestling debut at IMPACT Hard To Kill 2022. He has captured the X-Division Championship and battled stars like Josh Alexander and Jonathan Gresham, among many others. Bailey is competing in the prestigious NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament, and before it began, he made it clear that he wants to use it to vault back into the title picture in IMPACT.
Speaking with Tim Battle on the Battleground Podcast, Bailey was asked to describe what he has to do to get back into the IMPACT World Championship picture. He noted that the first step will be winning the Best of the Super Juniors tournament. Bailey also made it clear that he is keeping an eye on the IMPACT X-Division Championship.
“I think step one is going to be to win the Best of Super Juniors tournament. I think if I can win that and make a huge statement by doing so, but I’m looking at Steve Maclin, of course I am, but I am also looking at the X-Division Championship scene. We’ve got a big match between Trey Miguel and Chris Sabin coming up at Under Siege, and I like to keep my options open. I like to pay attention, and I will land wherever I fit best," Bailey said.
Bailey emphasized that his goal is to hold both the IMPACT World Championship and the X-Division Championship. He stated that he wants to achieve great things, and he'd like to be the first one to hold both titles at the same time. Bailey pointed out that his victory in the Ultimate X match at IMPACT Slammiversary 2022 seemed impossible, but he did it.
"My goal is both. I want to be both the X-Division and World Champion at the same time. Maybe tag team champion as well, but that’s what I’m gunning for. I’m a ‘shoot for the moon, and even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.’ I want to achieve big things, and I don’t think it has been done before, and I would love to be the first one to do it. Winning the X-Division Championship in an Ultimate X Match at the 20th Slammiversary seemed absolutely impossible as well, yet I did it," Bailey said.
