Miro Recalls Receiving A 'Bonus' Following His Final WWE Match

Miro (formerly Rusev in WWE) wrestled his last match in WWE back in February when he teamed with Humberto Carrillo to battle Bobby Lashley and Angel Garza.

The match ended with Garza picking up the victory over Miro, which wasn't the original plan. After the bout, Miro thought Garza was trying to bury him a little further, which he took exception to.

"I knew it was my last match. The match started, we were supposed to go over. Next thing you know, I'm losing. Next thing you know, Garza is beating me, not Bobby, which is the feud. It's the other guy. I already had no wins. It doesn't matter, I'm a professional, whatever you want to do, that's what we do. We do the finish, a roll-up, and the instructions were for him to leave the ring. Next thing you know, I see the ref go to his ear. Angel goes to the corner and raises his hands, celebrating, while I'm in the ring selling the roll-up. I turn around, out of the back of my eye, and I see what's happening. I just charged him and beat the fuck out of him. My eyes turned red. I knew what they were trying to do. [Rikishi] always told me, 'You have to protect yourself, no one is going to look after you.' I started clubbing him, he rolled out, and I broke Joey Mercury's rule, which is, if you're a babyface and you lose, you never raise your hand. I just wanted to stick it up to everybody and say, 'I don't care who wins and loses, I am Miro!' I came to the back, Vince said he was going to give me a bonus. He said, 'Oh, they're trying to bury you out there, you really took care of yourself. This is exactly what I need to see, you're very aggressive, good stuff.' That was my bonus," Miro recalled to Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho.

Miro was released by WWE in April as part of the company-wide cutbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He took time away from wrestling before joining AEW in September. In his first singles match since leaving WWE, Miro defeated Trent on the most recent episode of Dynamite.
