As it turns out, the near future looks bright AKIRA is set to train with Big Japan Pro Wrestling legend Daisuke Sekimoto. While speaking with Jeremy Lambert and Joel Pearl of Fightful Overbooked's In The Weeds podcast for a new interview, AKIRA laid out the situation and explained how he asked Sekimoto for the opportunity.

"I’m going to start training with Daisuke Sekimoto. I asked him before I left Japan. I went up to him and said, ‘Please, I want to train and become a mentee under you.’ I didn’t expect him to so complimentary. He looked at me and said, ‘You don’t need a mentor. You’re excellent.’ I said, ‘It’s nice to hear that, but please. I might be excellent, but I want to be better.’ He looked at me and smiled. ‘When you return, we start training in-ring together.’ I’m going to be picking his brain for the next four or five months and we’ll see who I become as time goes on. This year, I’m trying to push myself in every way that I can so I can become the most successful person I can be."

Elsewhere in the interview, AKIRA joked that he wants to get a Nike sponsorship. Check out his full comments by clicking here.
