The Miz appeared on Friday Night Smackdown like he hinted he would and, in the process, helped Austin Theory earn a chance at regaining the WWE United States Championship.
The first match on the August 18 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown saw former WWE United States Championship Austin Theory compete against LA Knight, with the winner earning a chance to challenge current WWE United States Champion Rey Mysterio for the championship at a later date. The Miz was at ringside for this match after hinting that he might appear on WWE SmackDown following a confrontation with Knight that occurred on the August 9 episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.
The Miz's appearance paid dividends for Austin Theory as a distraction from the former WWE Champion led to Theory scoring a victory over LA Knight and earning the chance to challenge Rey Mysterio for the WWE United States Championship in the future.
