Muhammad Hassan enjoys that his character will always exist as a product of its time. He loves that because he can completely separate himself from that time in his life.
Muhammad Hassan was a controversial and short-lived character in WWE. He first appeared at the end of 2004 and was written off by the 2005 WWE Great American Bash after a match against Undertaker.
Playing off of the prejudices that Arab Americans faced following the 9/11 attacks, Hassan now claims the character would never work today and will always remain simply a product of its time.
"Muhammad Hassan would never work now. Never ever, and it shouldn’t. I’m not saying like it’s too bad, I’m saying like it definitely wouldn’t and it shouldn’t work. It’s just not the kind of character that agrees with modern society, and that’s perfectly fine. That’s what I love about the character: it stays in its time. To me, that’s perfect,” Hassan said to former WWE star Maven in a recent YouTube video.
Muhammad Hassan was taken off WWE television after a controversial segment with The Undertaker aired on the same day as a bombing in London in 2005. Find out more about that segment here.
Muhammad Hassan will get a second chance at life in the upcoming Virtual Basement video game, "The Wrestling Code." Learn more at this link.
