Nic Nemeth Reflects On Vince McMahon Telling Him His World Title Win Would End His Losing Streak

Nic Nemeth reflects on cashing in his WWE Money in the Bank briefcase and realizing that WWE is Hollywood and there's only so much he could've controlled.

Dolph Ziggler cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase in 2013 on the WWE Monday Night Raw after WWE WrestleMania 29. Defeating Alberto Del Rio for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Nic Nemeth believed that this was the moment that the character of Dolph Ziggler would finally rise to a new level of WWE Superstardom. However, fate had other plans.

During a recent interview with Jon Alba of The Takedown on SI, Nemeth reflected on being told by Vince McMahon that the title victory was the end of his losing streak in WWE and then losing the very next week to Jack Swagger (Jake Hager) in under 10 minutes.

"Like when I became world champ, the first match I had, I remember Vince told me once, 'you finally cash in this contract, you won't lose every single night. Everyone forgets about it. It's all out the window. You're the world champ,'" Nemeth recalled.

"I cash in. I was the world champ. The next Monday, I lost a five-minute match. Jack Swagger and I went, 'what the f***' are we doing here? Like what?'"

After that, he resolved to focus only on what he could control and continue to give his all every time he was given a task. Today, he's the TNA World Champion and reflected on the team effort that is TNA Wrestling behind the scenes.

"I'm a link in this team that is kicking ass behind the scenes," he said. "Ariel [Schnerer], Tommy, Gail, kicking ass. Motivating all the talent, having a relationship with the talent where it's like, 'how about this? How about this,' and then meeting in the middle. Like, whoa, that can happen. Like, this is the coolest thing ever."

WWE and TNA Wrestling recently entered a new multi-year partnership. Learn more about that here.

Nemeth pondered on the possibility of John Cena competing in TNA as part of the working relationship. Read his comments here.
