NJPW Releases Statement Regarding Injury To Mercedes Mone At NJPW Resurgence

NJPW confirms injury to Mercedes Mone.

Mercedes Mone and Willow Nightingale battled in the main event of NJPW Resurgence for the vacant NJPW STRONG Women's Championship. During the bout, Mercedes fell from the top rope down to the ringside area, but managed to land on her feet. Once she got back in the ring, she was noticeably limping and trying not to put weight on her ankle.

The bout ended with Willow hitting two powerbombs on Mercedes to pick up the victory and become the first-ever NJPW STRONG Women's Champion.

NJPW put out the following statement regarding Mone's injury:

During her match with Willow Nightingale in the main event of Resurgence May 21, Mercedes Moné sustained an injury to her right ankle.

Moné underwent a thorough appraisal of her injury immediately after her match and began treatment.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling joins fans in wishing Moné a full and fast recovery.

It is unknown when Mercedes will return to action.

Mercedes commented on her injury following the match, saying she was going to heal and be back better than ever. Fightful Select posted an update on how the match changed due to the injury.
