El Phantasmo won the NJPW World TV Championship at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19, defeating Ren Narita, Jeff Cobb, and Ryohei Oiwa in a four-way match.
The finish saw ELP break up Cobb's pin attempt on Narita, and then hit Thunder Kiss 86 on Narita to score the victory for himself.
In October, NJPW announced that El Phantasmo was taking an indefinite leave of absence due to a health concern. Phantasmo then stated that doctors had found a small tumor of cancer. ELP returned at the December 22nd NJPW Road To Tokyo Dome event, announcing he was cancer free and cleared to return.
