Orange Cassidy is consider an AEW original as he was part of AEW Double or Nothing 2019, and then was officially signed shortly after.
Cassidy made a name for himself on the independent scene, wrestling for PWG, CHIKARA, Beyond Wrestling, and other promotions.
Speaking on The Shaky Experience, Cassidy recalled a PWG match where he jumped off the balcony in front of his new boss.
"I don’t know if I should say this, but I’m going to say it anyway because whatever. It’s nothing bad. It was 2019 and I think I did Double or Nothing. AEW offered me a contract, a holding thing that was, ‘Don’t go sign anywhere.’ I was continuing to do my independent dates and it was PWG Battle of Los Angeles, the last night. Tony Khan is a connoisseur of pro wrestling, a true fan of pro wrestling. He would go to indie shows and he was at the show. I was wrestling in the big multi-man match that happens at night three at PWG. I decided to jump off the balcony with my hands in my pockets onto a bunch of people. There is a photo online of, my hands are in my pockets, and as I’m jumping, you can see Tony Khan in the balcony behind me being like, ‘What did I just sign?’ I was able to talk with Tony after that show and it was the start of what you see now with Orange Cassidy. I can’t say enough nice things about Tony Khan and the generosity and the type of person he is. Professional wrestling, I feel, is very lucky to have that man," said OC.
Cassidy has become one of the top stars in AEW, challenging for the AEW World Title at AEW Worlds End in a four-way match against Jon Moxley, Jay White, and Hangman Page.
