Paige: “It Was Never WWE Holding The Women Back, It Was The Fans Not Taking Them Seriously"

Paige gives her take about the beginning stages of the women's revolution in WWE.

Former 3-time WWE Women's Champion Paige is on a media run with members of the Fighting With My Family crew to further promote the movie. She has spoken with a plethora of outlets including 'Gulf News'. The once-"Anti-Diva" touched on the women's revolution in WWE and mentioned how when she got to the sports-entertainment company, it was a struggle and there were only a handful of women's wrestlers.

Paige stated that it was not WWE who was holding back the ladies from regularly performing in the ring but rather it was fans not taking them seriously.

“It was never WWE holding the women back,” stresses Paige. “It was the fans not taking them seriously. They wanted to see more of the male characters many years ago. It was a male dominated sport. When I first started, there were only five women there. It was a struggle but WWE just believed in us. When I got into the ring, I wanted to prove to the fans that girls were capable of having good matches and sometimes, even better. That was kind of my mission from the get go. Now there’s obviously a revolution.” She said.

Paige officially retired from in-ring competition the night after WrestleMania 34 and had a role as GM of SmackDown Live for a number of months until she was relived of her duties in storyline. Paige was asked what is next for her and she responded with the following:

“Therapy really helped me in my journey and now I am very excited to be on a positive path. I can’t do the wrestling side anymore, so acting is a possibility. My future target is to obviously keep working in WWE on screen or behind the scenes." She said. "In future, I would like to start going into movies, acting, just be the next Dwayne [Johnson] in that aspect. My clothing line is like what the movie says, preaching you to be yourself always. It’s okay to be different. I have a make-up line. I am really excited [and] will be doing more stuff."

The women's evolution took another step last night as Sasha Banks and Bayley became WWE Women's Tag Team Champions.
