Paige VanZant Says She Did Early AEW Appearances For Free, Comments On Her Training

Paige VanZant is the newest AEW signing and she's excited to start her wrestling career.

VanZant signed her AEW contract in the closing segment of AEW Dynamite after laying out Tay Conti. VanZant, a former UFC fighter who is also signed to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships, has been making AEW appearances since September.

Speaking to Marc Raimondi of ESPN, VanZant revealed that she did several AEW appearances for free, leading to her falling in love with the sport.

"The more I got involved, the more I loved it," said VanZant, who added she always thought about venturing into pro wrestling one day. "I just realized I was meant to be a part of the show. I wanted to be one of the wrestlers for them and I knew I would be really good at it."

VanZant will be training with David Heath (Gangrel) and her first class starts on Monday.

"My only frustration so far with my whole pro-wrestling journey," VanZant said, "is I would show up and I said, 'Hey, I want to jump off the ropes tonight. I want to slam someone through a table tonight -- someone is getting slammed through a table.' They're like, uh, you should probably train first. My only concern is they don't let me do the crazy stuff right away. I want to go in there and I want to do all the crazy stuff. I want to fully immerse myself in this world."

BKFC spokesperson Bernie Bahrmasel previously said that BKFC and AEW will work together to build her career. Her AEW deal still allows her to work with BKFC and she said she has no plans to leave the promotion.

VanZant also stated that she still sees MMA in her future. It is unknown when VanZant will make her AEW in-ring debut.
