Paul Heyman: I Always Envisioned Roman Reigns' Historic Reign, I Envision It Three Years From Now

Paul Heyman always believed that Roman Reigns would make history.

August 30 marked the three-year anniversary of WWE Payback 2020. There, Roman Reigns defeated Braun Strowman and "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt to win the Universal Championship, and he has held the title ever since. Reigns went on to beat Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship, and he continues to reign supreme as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. As of this writing, Reigns has held the gold for over 1,000 days.

Speaking on the August 30 edition of WWE's The Bump, Heyman made it clear that he always expected Reigns to have a historic reign.

“Yes," Heyman responded when asked whether he envisioned Reigns would have such a remarkable title run back at WWE Payback 2020.

When again asked if he thought that Reigns would have a three-year reign, Heyman stated that he did. In fact, he noted that he envisions Reign reigning supreme for three more years and beyond.

“God, this like a deposition. Asked and answered. Yes, and I envision it three years from now, and three years after that, and three years after that," Heyman said.

Heyman went on to describe how Reigns sought to cement his legacy, so he started his mission to take down milestones, hoping to become the greatest of all time. He stated that, three years into the reign, they were just getting started.

"Roman Reigns wanted to be the greatest of all time. Roman Reigns wanted to solidify his legacy. Roman Reigns knew that he had peaked as the big dog, and there was nowhere left for him to go. Four WrestleMania main events, multiple heavyweight championships. What more could Roman Reigns have pulled off? Then he realized there is more. There is a higher mountaintop. There is more greatness to pursue. There is the claim that John Cena could be the greatest of all time. There is the claim that Bruno Sammartino was the greatest champion of all time. These were all goals that Roman Reigns said, ‘We’re gonna go after them one by one, and like snipers, we’re gonna pick them off.’ So that’s what ended up doing. So yes, when Roman Reigns went after the championship, I knew he was going to be reigning at least this long, if not far longer. I knew the legacy that we were going to create, and we’re just getting started around here," Heyman said.
