Paul Wight: Kenny Omega And I Could Have One Hell Of A Match

Paul Wight really wants to face Kenny Omega.

Wight hasn't wrestled since March 2022, as he had knee replacement surgery in August 2022. He recently made it clear that he wants to have a match with Kenny Omega once he returns to the ring.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Wight doubled down on his interest in facing Omega and praised him as a talent. He cited the way the former world champion enhances those around him and pushes them. Wight also described how he looks for someone he could tell a believable story with, and he's confident that he could have a great match with Omega.

“I want to get in the ring with Kenny Omega. I want that real bad. Kenny is an incredible talent to watch compete. He has a way of enhancing talent, and he pushes talent to another extreme. I’m always looking for someone to tell a believable story with, whether I am a babyface or a heel. The way he sells, the way he puts his heart and soul into every match, so a match between us could be very believable. As much as I like his wrestling, the guy in the back is even more impressive. He’s humble, hard working and works hurt. Looking at his aggressiveness and his heart, I think we could have one hell of a match," Wight said.

Wight also emphasized that he is focusing on his rehab and recovery after he had knee surgery. He then teased that he's eager to return to the ring and play with some of the "kids" in AEW, though he didn't name any others specifically.

“For me, it’s all about rehab and getting stronger, and then I can get back in the ring and play with these AEW kids. There are a couple that have caught my eye," Wight said.

Meanwhile, Wight continues to help AEW outside of the ring as a special advisor for their outreach program, AEW Together, which will hold the “AEW All Star Slam Dunk” event in Independence, MO, on March 21.

Wight previously stated that he has a "couple years left" in AEW. Check out his comments here.
