Donald Trump and Vince McMahon have been linked together since the early years of WrestleMania when Trump Plaza in New Jersey hosted WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V.
The two maintained a friendship in the preceding years, and Trump would became a central figure on WWE television ahead of WrestleMania 23 when they competed were opposite each other in the Battle of the Billionaires.
Journalist Phil Mushnick has long covered both men from various distances, and he says he warned Trump about certain exploits of McMahon decades ago.
"[Trump] had just run the Miss Universe contest and he got rid of the winner because she was on alcohol and drugs, and he played this noble man and he was going to take care of that and clean up the pageant. I called him and I said, 'Donald, I have four boxes, I'll deliver them to you, with all the Fed Ex records of the steroids and opioids delivered to McMahon, the wrestlers, Hulk Hogan from (Dr. George) Zahorian. I will give them to you. You don't want to be involved in this.' What did he say? He's the smartest man on earth. 'No, don't worry about it. I'm going to give the money to charity.' 'How much are you going to give to charity?' 'About a million dollars.' 'I hope to see the ceremony where you present that big styrofoam check for a million dollars because if you give a million dollars to charity, we'd all know it,'" Mushnick said on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Trump got involved in the Miss Universe pageant in 1996.
McMahon is currently being investigated by the federal government after a lawsuit was filed by former employee Janel Grant who claimed McMahon sexually assaulted and sexually trafficked her.
