Pretty Deadly: Even With Our Meteoric Rise, There's Still More Work To Be Done

Pretty Deadly discuss their rapid rise and their goals for the future.

Former NXT UK Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince and Kit Wilson) came to NXT in 2022, and they won the NXT Tag Team Championship in their debut. They subsequently lost the titles but later regained the gold at NXT Worlds Collide in September 2022. Prince and Wilson moved to the main roster in 2023, as SmackDown selected them in the WWE Draft. Within weeks, they earned a title shot, and they unsuccessfully challenged Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship on the June 30 episode of WWE SmackDown.

Speaking on The Run-In with Ariel Helwani ahead of WWE Money in the Bank, Prince and Wilson shared their thoughts on their rise to the main roster. Specifically, they were asked about the work they put in to get their characters over and whether they felt like their efforts were paying off.

Elton Prince: Yeah, I think so. I think we’ve managed to get away with just nonsense for the last couple of years, basically.

Kit Wilson: You’re a ridiculous man.

EP: Yes, but somehow it’s working. I think we’ve obviously put a lot of time in, a lot of effort to try and get our characters and try and show that it’s not just a one-dimensional character. I think now we’re kind of reaping the rewards of it after this stratospherical rise.

KW: But you know what? Even with that meteoric rise, there’s still more work to be done.

Prince and Wilson were discussing other great tag teams, and they noted that The Usos could be at the top of the list. The duo highlighted the former champions' growth as an example. Prince emphasized that they're trying to evolve as well, and they will try new things in order to progress and offer the fans something new.

“I think a huge thing for us is the growth. It’s very easy to wrestle and to have a character and stuff, but to be able to evolve it year after year, I think it’s something that maybe doesn’t always go noticed. It’s very easy for people to get bored of people or people to be searching for something new, and yet they’re always just bringing a new product and something new, something new to the characters, something new to the people. I think that’s the thing that we have to credit them for, and that’s something that we’ll try and do ourselves. So when you see us walking around with a mustache one day and a perm, just don’t be surprised. We’re trying," Prince said.

When asked whether they’re surprised how quick they’ve reached this level of success so quickly, Prince playfully responded by saying that they weren't, as they're very good. Wilson then noted that they have always been aiming to get to this level. He pointed out that they continue to reach for new heights, and they're excited for the future.

"Yes boy! I mean, this is always what we’ve been shooting for. Since getting signed, we were like, we want this. When we joined NXT UK, we won the championships. Then we kind of went to NXT, and we’re like, ‘You know what? We want every single tag team title going,’ and that’s still the goal. We’re still heading towards there. Just talking about the division in general, amazing that it main-evented WrestleMania night one. That’s the direction we want to head in, so it’s a goal that we want to get to and feel like we are gonna get to, but it’s another thing getting there. I’m just excited," Wilson said.
