Raquel Rodriguez knows she has a history with Dakota Kai but the past is the past and she's looking to move forward.
The former Raquel Gonzalez was once the bodyguard for Dakota Kai on WWE NXT. During their run together, they won the WWE NXT Women's Tag Team Championship twice. Eventually, Dakota Kai was unfortunately released while Raquel Gonzalez adopted the name Raquel Rodriguez and moved up to the WWE Smackdown roster.
Now, their paths will cross on Monday, August 29, 2022, in the finals of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship Tournament. Speaking about the upcoming opportunity she has to face her former friend, Raquel stated that they both made their decisions and she's looking forward to becoming the WWE Tag Team Champions with Aliyah.
"I know Dakota very well. We were the first NXT Tag Team Champions and we were the first ever two-time NXT Women's Tag Team Champions. But that doesn't change anything. She's made her choices and I've made mine, and I am very excited to be making these finals — my Raw debut with my girl Aliyah by my side," said Raquel on The SmackDown LowDown following the August 26 on Peacock.
Aliyah added, "Thanks, Raquel. I mean, I know I've got a lot of proving to do and I haven't proven myself yet. But with Raquel by my side, I am confident that we are going to be taking those tag team titles."
Aliyah made her WWE Raw debut one week before Raquel on Monday, August 22, in a losing effort to Bayley. Now, both she and Raquel look to beat Bayley’s team of IYO SKY and Dakota Kai.
