AEW wanted Atsushi Onita in the building for AEW Revolution.
According to Yahoo Sports, AEW offered to have Onita be a "witness" for the exploding barbed wire deathmatch between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega at AEW Revolution. Unfortunately, Onita couldn't make the trip due to the COVID-19 pandemic and having to quarantine.
Onita is scheduled to participate in WWS No. 2 Civic Gymnasium Tournament on March 21. He would have to quarantine for two weeks upon returning to Japan after coming to the United States, which would take him out of his WWS appearance.
He said he would be open to appearing in AEW, or having AEW wrestlers appear in Japan, once the pandemic is over.
Onita, who has competed in over a dozen exploding barbed wire deathmatches, did make a video appearance on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite.
